OUR STORY

The Mangawhai Tracks Charitable Trust was born out of the Mangawhai Walking Weekend, an organised three days of guided walks attracting over 600 participants annually and now in its 18th year. The need for new walks saw a small group of mainly retirees gather on Friday mornings to clear old tracks and construct new ones.

The DOC scenic reserve on the southern slopes of the Brynderwyn Hills has been the focus of new track construction (the Tanekaha Tramping Tracks), but track development has also been undertaken at Mangawhai Heads (Goldschmidt Track), within Mangawhai Community Park (Last of the Summer Wine, and Paul’s Track), and around the harbour. The “Trackies” also maintain walking track links within the suburban area and all existing tracks.

“Some of the most beautiful local walks have been carved directly by the hands of these amazing volunteers”

The “Trackies” welcome new volunteers.
